My Therapeutic Philosophy
I believe wholeheartedly that the connection between therapist and client is the basis for success. Building rapport is an ongoing process that will never be complete. You will be welcomed by a warm and empathetic approach.
I enjoy using an integrative approach during therapy. The reason for this is that therapy is not a one size fits all and a mixture of evidence-based approaches allow for more opportunity of growth. I consider the "whole person" and explore how anxiety and complex histories play a role in our physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
When you come to me, we will work on YOUR concerns and goals, not mine. I understand this may look different from session to session. My job is to help guide and support you while you work to become the best version of yourself.
Specialties
Are you a constant worrier about anything and everything? Maybe you experience intense feelings when being in the presence of large groups. Sometimes, we also experience something that impacts us for months and years moving forward.
Here are the types of anxiety that you and I can address together:
General Anxiety
Day to day worrying that weighs heavy on you
Social Phobias/Social Anxiety
Feeling extreme discomfort in the presence of new people and larger groups. Avoiding social scenarios and settings may feel more comfortable to you.
Anxiety from trauma and PTSD
Have you experienced a life changing event that causes daily disruption? Understanding what is happening inside your body and knowing how to work with, not against, your nervous system is where we can start.
This area is all encompassing for the areas of life that can easily become stressful and messy. Major life events, changes , and transitions can be difficult to cope with on our own. Sometimes, we feel like we are at a crossroad and don't know where to go. Below are topics we can process together to make sense of the world:
Divorce (partner or parent) and break ups
Grief and loss
Planning for/Going away to College
Changes in peer groups
"Real World"/"Adulting" worries after college
Newly blended family
Planning to start a family
Relocation to a new city/state
..and many more
Conflict may arise from personality differences or even negative emotional interactions with others.
Conflict with self
Trouble with identifying who you truly are and what you value
Not knowing or understanding what your purpose may be
Feeling stuck between staying in your comfort zone, but wanting to make change
Conflict with others
Romantic relationships have natural ebbs and flows; but maybe it feels like it's causing too much tension and on the verge of breaking
Peer conflict is common, especially in teenage years. Gain an understanding of how to work through this conflict with communication and perspective taking
Family conflict can cause disruption in an entire household. Learning communication styles, "fair fighting rules", and establishing boundaries is key to success.
No matter your age, ADD can be disruptive and unruly. Working on concrete skills to establish routine is essential to decreasing unwanted forgetfulness and increasing intentional behaviors.
Trouble studying/completing work
Forgetting "simple" daily tasks
Difficulty sitting still throughout the day
Being labeled as a daydreamer
Ready to Connect?
I have 10+ years of experience working with preteens and teens in both clinical and non-clinical manners. I began my career as a therapist working at and developing a clinical program within a public school system. Additionally, I worked for a company which provided Intensive In-Community (IIC) Services for youth and families in Bergen County. Within all positions, I received further training through clinical supervision on both an individual and group basis. All of these experiences led me to finally taking the leap and opening my private practice.
These career opportunities have rewarded me with a wealth of knowledge in areas of anxiety, depression, ADHD, family and peer conflict, school avoidance and life transitions for preteens, teens, and even young adults.
